Shared Governance
We believe a union contract that legally requires that faculty be treated as equal partners in the governance of the institution will lead to a stronger, healthier university, will empower faculty, and will engage a broader group in decision making.
Protection of Pay and Benefits
A union contract will facilitate a fair and consistent system of evaluating and providing compensation and require negotiation over decisions that impact our financial, physical, and mental well-being—especially when cuts appear necessary.
Teaching and Learning Environment
A union contract will offer an opportunity to establish criteria for, and faculty involvement in, maintaining a healthy, safe, and comfortable teaching and learning environment, giving faculty a voice in things that impact the spaces where we teach, advise, and conduct research.
Transparency
A union contract will require decisions be made more out in the open, providing transparency around how and why those decisions are made and how resources are allocated at the university, and holding decision-makers more accountable to behave responsibly and fairly.
Formalized Grievance Process
A union contract will offer an opportunity to set basic expectations about our agency at the university, our pay and benefits, the teaching and learning environment, and decision making transparency—and establish a process to find recourse when these expectations are not upheld.
